Our Commitment to the Planet

As an association, we will inspire a culture of sustainability awareness through leadership, education, support, and advocacy to help members reduce their impact on the planet.

TLMI takes the meaning of sustainability literally – the ability to keep doing what we’re doing. We know that our member companies play a vital role in the continuing growth of our industry, and we know the importance of being responsible stewards of our planet’s finite resources.

DID YOU KNOW?

TLMI provides resources for our members including support for sustainability management systems and committees where collaboration on sustainability topics can enable understanding and actionable steps.   TLMI is an activator of the U.S. Plastics Pact.  As an activator, our participation signals that we cannot wait any longer to take real action on waste management, the prevention of marine debris, and climate change. The power of the U.S. Plastics Pact is the strength of collective action.   As an activator, we commit to the following:
  • We will not use any plastic straws or stirrers at any of our events.
  • If we offer bottled water or other beverages bottled in plastic at events, we will use 100% PCR content and if that is not available, we will use as high a PCR content as we can find.
  • We encourage and support the use of label materials that, per the Association of Plastic Recyclers APR Design® Guide for recyclability, are not detrimental to plastics recycling nor will render a plastic container non-recyclable.
TLMI is a founding member of CELAB North America.  An organization focused on finding circular end-of-life solutions for label byproducts.

TLMI Position on Climate Change

TLMI recognizes the risks posed by global climate change, such as more severe weather events and adverse impacts on human health and the environment; therefore we encourage TLMI members to take significant action to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

TLMI staff and committees have undertaken numerous efforts to promote and provide opportunities to reduce and recycle business waste which provides opportunities for companies to reduce GHG emissions. TLMI also supports the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership, a third-party audited certification program which enables our members to create a Sustainability Management System for tracking and improving environmental impacts, including GHG emissions.

It is TLMI’s position to:

  • Continue our efforts to encourage members to voluntarily reduce GHG emissions.
  • Actively partner with other organizations that can assist members in reducing GHG emissions in manufacturing and in the supply chain.
  • Engage with stakeholders to explore markets for environmentally preferable products.

TLMI believes that voluntary measures offer the greatest opportunity for our members to design innovative solutions that work best for their own companies and products; however, tackling climate change will require action from all parties in all sectors.

TLMI supports legislative and regulatory policies that promote low carbon and renewable energy projects and offer incentives for energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy implementation, and enable companies to strategically plan for long-term energy alternatives. TLMI also supports the establishment of emissions reduction targets guided by the best available science and technology, and providing credits for companies that have achieved verifiable voluntary emissions reductions.

Meet Rosalyn (Roz) Bandy
Vice President of Sustainability

Roz has been passionate about our mind-blowing planet since she was a young girl spending summers in the Adirondacks learning about animals and ecosystems.  For the last couple of decades, she has been on an awe-inspired high helping the label and packaging industry find relevancy between protecting the planet and running a profitable business.  A natural-born advocate, when she’s not working with TLMI members, she’s a New York State licensed wildlife rehabilitator dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured raccoons and educating the community on ways to cohabitate with wildlife.
